iPhone to hit Hong Kong

In the wake of the international iPhone deals, global mobile provider Hutchison Telecommunications has secured iPhone rights for Hong Kong and Macau. Relayed through MacUser, the South China Daily Morning Post claimed that existing HT subscribers are expected to be the first to access the iPhone in a program running this summer.

The Newspaper had quoted a representative of Hutchison Telecom stating ” Due to the confidential agreement with Apple, we can’t say too much beyond the formal announcement.” While the service provider had officially announced the deal, there was no word of whether they are planning to launch with the upcoming 3G model.

Other mobile carriers were expected to announce similar deals with Apple, China Mobile, the worlds largest mobile operator had officially called off negotiations, which were thought to have been stifled by technical issues and revenue sharing disagreements. Currently, citizens of Hong Kong can only buy iPhones through unofficial channels. Hong Kong, along with mainland China, is considered to be among the most lucrative mobile markets in the world, further securing Apple’s international iPhone rollout.
