AT&T announces iPhone rate plans; no contract necessary.

This morning AT&T has released pricing details for the long awaited iPhone 3G set to launch July 11th at 8:00 AM.

The 8GB iPhone 3G is set at $199 with the 16GB going for $299, both with a two-year contract. These plans are available only to users who purchased the phone’s first generation before July 11, making them eligible for an upgraded.

Users who aren’t eligible for such upgrades will be paying $399 for the 8GB and $499 for the 16GB. In the future users will be able to purchase the phones sans-contract for $599 and $699, for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. Those buyers would go month-to-month on AT&T’s service and the no-contract phones would be “locked” to work only on AT&T’s network.

“We can’t wait to offer iPhone 3G to our customers, and we want to make sure the buying process is as easy as possible,” said the president and CEO of AT&T’s wireless, Ralph de la Vega. “Considering all the great new features of iPhone 3G, we think our pricing and monthly plans present a tremendous value for consumers and businesses alike.”

Existing customers will be required to pay an $18 activation fee, while new customers will need to pay double that.  Additionally, business users must pay $45/month for the Enterprise Data Plan.  For non-business customers, the plans are as follows:

• AT&T Nation Unlimited: Includes unlimited Anytime Minutes for $129.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 1350: Includes 1350 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $109.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 900: Includes 900 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $89.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 450: Includes 450 Anytime Minutes and 5,000 Night & Weekend Minutes for $69.99 a month.

There is an additional FamilyTalk plan that includes unlimited data and voice at $129.99 for two iPhones with additional lines priced at $39.99.
