Mac OS X increases market share as Windows dwindles.

Leopard ScreenShotBarry Collins of (a UK online publication) reported today that new research shows that Windows’ market share is beginning to dwindle with Mac OS X being the main beneficiary.

NetApplications, a company which measures the operating systems being used by 160 million visiting a cross-section of popular websites worldwide, states that Windows has a 90.89% market share compared to 93.34% a mere one year ago. Meanwhile, Mac OS X increased its market share from 6.03% in June 2007 to 7.94% in June 2008. Additionally, Apple’s presence has been further boosted by the emergence of the iPhone as a web-browsing device, claiming 0.16% of the market.

With Windows 7 not set to launch until 2010, Microsoft is expected to dip below 90% market share by the end of this year. We are sure Steve Ballmer and company find some relief in the fact that Windows Vista is finally beginning to find its place in this world of operating systems, increasing its position to 16.14% compared to its predecessor, Windows XP’s, 71.2%.
