Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands to Get iPhone 3G on October 17

AT&T has officially announced that both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will have the opportunity to join their mainland brethren as the iPhone 3G is set to be released next month.

An AT&T press release issued today confirms that both U.S territorial acquisitions will be receiving the iPhone 3G on October 17.  In similar U.S. fashion, the device will be available for $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively with a two year AT&T service contract.  Current customers that are not eligible for an upgrade can purchase the device for $399 and $499 respectively.

VP and general manager of AT&T’s wireless operations in Puerto Rico noted, “iPhone will arrive for AT&T customers in Puerto Rico on October 17,” adding, “AT&T is committed to offering the most innovative products and services to our customers, and we are pleased to be part of this great milestone in our market.”

For customers who are eagerly awaiting the device’s arrival, AT&T has an iPhone specific web page where customers can check their upgrade status and account information to better prepare for the launch.
