Walmart to Start Selling iPhone 3G on November 15th

Adding to the list of Big Box retailers selling Apple’s iPhone 3G, Walmart is said to begin stocking the iPhone prior to the upcoming holiday shopping season, on November 15th to be exact.

According to the BoyGeniusReport, their source “has it on good authority that Walmart will begin selling the iPhone 3G next month – on November 15th to be exact.” BGR has previously reported that Radio Shack would sell the iPhone, and MacBlogz received similar information, however nothing materialized on that front. Best Buy however is on board, and began selling the iPhone across their network of retail locations in September. Additionally, BGR reminds us that the exact date of November 15th makes sense, seeing as how Black Friday would be arriving less than two weeks later.

Making consumers lust after a device is the first step, however making the device available to them can be a greater challenge. By adding Walmart to the list of official iPhone resellers, Apple would be increasing the device’s presence, and simply be making it available in more places across the country. Still though, I can’t imagine Walmart being the “go-to” spot for iPhone purchases. I think it would be 3rd or 4th on the list, if only based on the level of service you would get while making the purchase. It’s uncertain whether Apple will remain adamant about requiring activation during the time of purchase, but if they are expecting a massive surge of sales at any particular time, we could see that rule bypassed. As we did when the iPhone 3G first launched in July.

You can see Apple’s global expansion efforts with the iPhone 3G on our iPhone WorldMap.

Here’s a link to Walmart’s current cell phone section on the walmart website:

They’ve got ATT, Verizon and TMobile stuff, so the iPhone could definitely be coming here.

What does this say about AT&T thoughts about their Agent/Retailers?

I’ve checked at a few Radioshacks over the past few months, and despite carrying most ATT phones, they were never planning on getting the iPhone. All of them “hoped” — But non of them got it. So, I’m not sure if ATT cares too much. Or if they would be affected.

I work at Radioshack and the manager has pretty much been bullshitting us about the iPhone for MONTHS. We’re not getting it and he acts like he knows something more than he does. When I know he doesn’t.

The bottom line is I’ve done all the research possible and Radioshack is NOT going to get the iPhone anytime soon. They ARE planning on bringing in a lot of new ATT phones over and before the holiday season. But no iPhone.
